Is poker gambling?

As I said last post, I have friends and family that think poker is like heroin – starts good but once you are hooked up to the eyeballs, and debt.  Of course, we all know that it is not. There are countless arguments on the web, all trying desperately to decide everyone should join the gambler is anonymous or not. This is my take on it.  So technically, poker gambling calculated. Assuming, of course, that tournament chips have some value. Tournament Chips have no monetary value – not just investment. But it more chips means a higher position, chips are not an implied value of the point in the game is to get more of them to end up higher. Poker is gambling. Gambling is not a bad thing. Poker is a good game and good players are a mathematical and psychological edge over poor players. Poker is a game where each of the tournament, scrimmage, and every hand is a plate of offensive words in your opponents. It’s about the long term, and proper money management.  But a terrible thing to gamble? I think not.

People often say – “it’s addictive, you will lose all your money”, but this argument is similar to the one about guns – “guns do not kill people, people kill people.” It’s not gambling that puts you in debt, it makes the person games. Activities related to the use of resources can put you in debt. Properly managed as in all financial affairs, gambling is perfectly safe.  All decent players, from amateur to pro, say that bankroll   management is crucial for success. It makes no sense playing all your money at once, because it is always the possibility you will lose like all forms of gambling. Instead, the risk of small parts of a bankroll let skillful edge plenty of time to take effect – in the long term. I’ve heard some people say, “But the play is immoral and stupid thing to spend the dash is.” Why? I can spend £ 10 down at the pub or the cinema a few hours, or I can spend the same amount of cards. I would probably enjoy both of equal, and I have the added benefit of online.
